ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO 6
Module Coordinator : Ar. Prince
Tutor : Ar. Lee Sze Ee
The module focuses on "place-making" in dense urban environments, emphasizing an urban-responsive design approach. Students engage in studio exercises exploring the concept of "place-making" and architecture that responds to urban needs. The design process involves developing architectural narratives and expressions to enrich the present and future context. The final outcome aims for an architectural design responsive to both tangible and intangible aspects of its urban character, maximizing the potential of urban space.
Project 1a: Pre-Design Studies & Analysis
During this phase, we will be organized into groups to explore, examine, and analyze the site in order to identify important elements prior to the design process. This study will help students become acquainted with the site, enabling them to truly experience the environment by 'sensing the place.' This will allow us to assess the current conditions of the site and connect them to the intended users and project goals. As a result, we will be able to formulate the most suitable strategies and programs for the project.
Project 1B & 1C
The goal is to design an Urban Room/City Hub that will serve as the city's 'Third Place.' This project aims to create a design that is in harmony with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 10, which focuses on reducing societal inequalities and promoting inclusivity for everyone, as well as SDG 11, which highlights the role of architecture in fostering sustainable cities and communities.

Reflection
Previously in AD5, I opened my eyes to urban theories, urban designs, the study of the street, how people live, how they behave and many more. It was very hard for me as its was like a big leap. But comparing this semester with the previous semesters I would definitely say it still very hard, I thought it would be easire since we got through Semester 5, but still we faced a lot of “First times”. It was our first time doing Basement, I really struggled with the structure as we not only have to think about the basement but also we have a slope at site, it is my first time doing a sloped project as well.
Although I felt really stressed in the semester, I am still very happy I get to learn a lot, especially when the site is another state. I also learned a lot about the people in JB, since I was in charged of the behavioral in P1A, I get to interview a lot of the visitors in JBCC and learned that they are actually (mostly) Singaporeans.
As for P2 which is most challenging for me, I would say I pushed myself to learn a lot of new functions in the softwares such as Revit, Illustrator and Enscape these which I already knew how to use, I had fun during the learning process as I gained a lot in return.
In short I learned a lot form my friends, turors and lecturers, hope all of those will help me grow in the future.
